Borrowing Woes...

I just hate it when somebody borrows something from me and fails to return it. This has happened many times. My friend's bro borrowed my World Fusion Music Collection CDs and never returned them. Another friend borrowed money and promised to return it within a certain time and when the time came, he cooked excuses and said he did not have a penny then while he had lumpsomes to invest in land.

Adding to these woes is an ex colleague or specimen. This guy borrowed my final semester project book from me promising to return after preparing for an interview. He was kicked out of Dell Inc for not performing well and so I lost touch with him. He was doing his parttime MBA at IIM B and whenever I used to ask him about his returning the book, he would give me excuses that he is busy over weekdays with boozing, and flirting and busy over weekends with IIM classes.

Its been 2 years since he got the book from me or should I say STOLE the book from me. I found him in Orkut and reminded him about the same. You know what he did? He deleted my scraps. Hmm...I sent him a mail asking him for it and bugger has blocked all emails to his ID!

What do I do now? Though I can make a copy of it from my projectmate in college, I ponder as to where do things like Ethics, Sense of Obligation stand in such people's life? Have those taken a beating and money and position have taken a priority? What use is education to them? Why cant they return stuff which does not belong to them in the first place?

I hope Nitin Sharma(Yep, he is a Punjabi Da Puttar) gets his due from someone and somebody steals his PF account money :)This specimen is a Punjab University and IIM B passout and works for a MNC as a Manager. I just pity his team members. God knows whether he disburses the bonus money to them properly?

Maddy Madness...

Those who know me well know that I am a die-hard fan of Madhavan aka Maddy. Infact they used to call me the President of his fun club. It started from the days of Saaya and Sea Hawks. Alaipayuthey just increased the drooling :) Only I know how much I lamented missing the premiere of Alaipayuthey in Chennai thanks to a BE stint at PSG Tech, Coimbatore which did not allow me to take a day off to visit chennai to watch the movie :p! Shalini( Shalini was my classmate in Adarsh!) had sent us tickets but its just that I could not capitalise...Hmm...that's a different story...

I happened to see some 2 ravishing stills of him in Guru and decided to post it here for the readers to see( I have added another few other fav stills of mine)!I know the male readers would laugh at me saying BIG DEAL but yen iniye penn thozhigal would thank me :)

Thanks to 'Hell's Angel' for introducing me to this slideshow from ImageShack...

NRI Blues...

During my recent trip to India, I accompanied my friend on her betrothal saree purchase. We decided to start with Srinivasa Silks and then move to Hayagriva(s) and end with Nalli 100. Ofcourse this was to be followed by a visit to Globus to pick up her fiance's clothing (her fiance is a good friend of mine...), have a quick snack at Sri Krishna Sweets and then go to Jewellery Land viz G R T, Usman Road. I am a fast shopper and I dont spend more than 10 minutes choosing a saree. Infact I picked up all my wedding sarees in a record time of 30 mins. Though my friend is aware of this, she took me along...

Having seen around 100 sarees at Srinivasa Silks, my friend was not able to come to a conclusion so we politely told them that we would come later and went to Hayagrivas getting drenched in the rain enroute (It was pouring cats and dogs in Chennai...Actually the rains this time started the minute I stepped out of Airport...Nallavanga Vandhaa Mazhai Peiyathaane Seiyum :p ;)...Seri...Seri...Idhu over dhaan...)

A saleswoman at Hayagrivas showed us a decent collection of Sarees. When we checked the prices of the sarees which we shortlisted we were shocked to see them overpriced. The saleswoman assured us saying that the price on the tag was the price for NRI and for others (common man) it was half of what was quoted on the tag...I was zapped when she completed her small speech.

Actually the real worth of the saree was half the quoted price or tagged price(analysed and found later after talking to Mambalam Mamis who visit Nalli and Kumaran every month). So we realised that Hayagrivas was actually employing the strategy of increasing the price to 2 fold and displaying it as a tag and when a common man(in this case the female folks who buy...) wants to buy the same, the cashier reduces the price by half and sells it...Its a strategy which works on the psyche level...The customer has the satisfaction that he/she bought it for half of what an NRI would have shelved/shelve and go home happy with the purchase.

My friend's father pointing at me asked the saleswoman that 'She is a NRI. Would you sell her this saree for Rs 12000/= when you are ready to give it to me for Rs 6000/=?'. The lady did not know what to say but just gave me a sheepish smile...

Adappaavigalaa...As Comedian Vivek says 'Ippo dhaan puriyardhu Tamilnadu va kandu yen ulagam bayapadurdhunnu (Now its clear as to why the whole world is scared of Tamilnadu)!
